Ferguson Attends National Skills Coalition Summit, Pushes for Passage of PARTNERS Act

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today attended the National Skills Coalition’s Skills Summit to discuss the importance of apprenticeships and workforce development and to highlight the PARTNERS Act with bill cosponsor Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.). The PARTNERS Act would establish a grant program for local industry and community partnerships to help small and medium sized businesses develop work-based learning programs. Funding for this grant program would come from fees already collected from H1-B visas and would be at no cost to the taxpayer.

“We need to continue giving local communities the flexibility and resources to create work-based learning opportunities that work for their job markets,” said Ferguson. “In Georgia and around the country, employers are seeing the value of putting skills training directly in the workplace, but sometimes it takes small dollar resources to start or expand an apprenticeship program. The PARTNERS Act provides that additional funding to give flexibility to employers, learners and communities.”
