Ferguson Votes to End Stream Protection Rule

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today voted to block the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement’s (OSM) Stream Protection Rule. The rule rewrites over 400 federal regulations and threatens the coal mining industry.

“One of the key promises I made when I came to Congress was to get rid of job-killing federal regulations,” said Ferguson. “The Stream Protection Rule is a perfect example. This rule puts almost one third of coal mining jobs in jeopardy and ignores the Department of Interior’s own reports that virtually all coal mines already operate safely and have no off-site impacts and that lands are being restored successfully under pre-existing regulations. By overturning this rule, we can begin to chip away at the daunting regulatory burden American industries face.”

The resolution passed by a vote of 228-194 and now moves to the Senate for consideration.
