Dear Friends,

Most of us remember exactly where we were 20 years ago on September 11, 2001. Whether we were at work, at school, in the grocery store, driving in the car, or at a dental practice like I was, we still feel the exact overwhelming emotions we felt on that morning.

Twenty years ago, our enemies attempted to destroy our most precious freedoms and the liberties that make our nation great. These deliberate attacks stole the lives of 2,996 people and injured thousands more. They tore families apart. Children lost parents, parents lost children, spouses lost loved ones. But the attempt to divide our nation did not succeed. Despite unthinkable darkness, humanity, hope, and strength shone through.

Without hesitation, strangers stepped in to save their fellow Americans, even at the expense of their own lives. We witnessed the heroic and selfless actions of our first responders and law enforcement officers as they ran into the burning buildings, climbed staircase after staircase, carried the injured to safety, sifted through rubble, and risked their lives to save the life of fellow Americans. Some paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community.

We can never fully thank or rightfully acknowledge the men and women who fought so hard to save lives on one of the darkest days in our nation’s history, but we can do everything in our power to honor their memory. We must never forget the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women who rose to the occasion and volunteered to defend our nation.

The noble sacrifices made by so many over these last two decades will be forever honored. Their courage and selfless service will inspire Americans for generations to come. May we never forget 9/11, and may God always bless the United States of America.

Standing Up for American's Constitutional Rights

Last week, after months of saying the government would not, should not, and could not impose vaccine mandates on U.S. citizens, President Biden announced he would be doing just that. To make matters worse, Biden is imposing these mandates on 80 million Americans by forcing private businesses to comply with his executive order. This is a massive and deeply concerning overreach by the federal government.

Simply put, I oppose these totalitarian measures, the federal government has no authority to dictate who is permitted to have a job, and Biden’s efforts to strong-arm employers into compliance will not stand.

I have consistently advocated for folks to speak with their healthcare provider, discuss the benefits and risks, and make an informed decision on what’s best for you and your loved ones. I joined my colleagues on the Doctors Caucus to fight back against this overreaching power grab by the Biden Administration. Click here to read the full statement.

Getting People Back to Work

A big thank you to West Georgia Technical College, local chambers, participating businesses, educational providers, community service organizations, and career service providers that attended this year’s career fair. The event had over 50 organizations representing a wide array of industries including technology, manufacturing, law enforcement, retail, food service, hospitality, utilities, education, and many more.

While some of the Third District’s largest employers were represented including FedEx, Great Wolf Lodge, Kia, Yamaha, Hyundai, Piedmont Healthcare, Racetrac, Amazon, Caterpillar and more, it’s clear that enhanced unemployment benefits are keeping folks who are out of work on the sidelines.

Despite over 4,500 open positions and opportunities for Georgians to obtain a job and hopefully build a meaningful career, the attendance fell far short of years past. It’s very concerning that the Biden Administration continues to push out policies that pay people more to sit at home than go to work. The impacts of these unemployment benefits are crushing our economy and degrading the dignity of work.

Committee Action: Advocating for a Responsible Budget

Last week, I participated in the House Ways and Means Committee hearing to consider and mark-up sections of House Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget proposal. This massive tax-and-spend plan would be a disaster for working families, retired individuals, and the next generation of Americans, who will be forced to foot the bill for President Biden and Speaker Pelosi’s socialist wish list.

We have seen how this administration has left Americans behind at every turn, and this out-of-control spending package is just the latest example. Biden and House Democrats have now turned their backs on our nation’s small businesses and workers by giving our competitors in China, the EU, and Russia the tools needed to succeed at America’s expense. This so-called “Build Back Better” Plan puts everyone first except America.

Dumping trillions of dollars into the American economy will only serve to accelerate the already serious inflation and economic crisis our nation is facing. Continuing to incentivize people to sit on the sidelines will only serve to increase the already record workforce shortage. Taxing and regulating small businesses out of existence is not the right path forward. I will continue to fight back against this Democratic move toward socialism. Click here to watch my opening remarks.
During Thursday’s hearing, I offered two amendments to help small businesses and ease the burden of labor challenges. The first amendment would have provided protections and predictability to mom-and-pop shops by requiring workers who participate in the bureaucratic federal paid family and medical leave programs to provide 60-days' notice of the need to be absent from work in order for small businesses to appropriately plan and anticipate needs. For medium to larger employers, the notice time to ask for leave would be 30 days compared to the Democrats' unimplementable plan of only seven days' of notice. Click here to watch me offer the amendment.
The second amendment I submitted on Thursday would have ensured funding to support the growth and development of women and minority-owned businesses. Instead of supporting my amendment to redirect $1 billion thoughtful, flexible investments in female and minority entrepreneurs to boost the supply of high-quality, affordable childcare, House Democrats blocked my initiative. Click here to watch my remarks offering the amendment.
On Friday, I offered a measure to provide seniors' popular Medicare Advantage plan, like dental, vision, and hearing, and ensure they have the healthcare they deserve. The lack of a secure provider network under the Democrats’ proposal gives uncertainty for healthcare access to folks in rural communities. With the largest and most expensive expansion of the Medicare program in over 50 years, Democrats did not consult with a single provider who would participate in these ill-planned expansion plans. Click here to watch my full remarks.
During the mark-up, House Democrats also doubled down on their support and stance to hand over America’s intellectual property (IP) to the Communist China Party. China's blatant disregard for American IP is a massive problem that's only growing, and the unwillingness by Democrats to simply hand over hard-earned American medical innovation and pharmaceutical technology address is simply wrong and once again puts foreign competitors first – before the needs of the American people. Click here to watch my exchange.
