Ferguson Votes Against Eliminating Jobs

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today released the following statement after voting no on Democrats’ H.R. 582, the Raise the Wage Act:

“America is the best place in the world to do business, and this bill would be a devastating blow to our booming economy. We cannot undo our recent success by enacting legislation that, according to the Congressional Budget Office, would eliminate up to 3.7 million jobs. Instead of pursing policies that undermine the economy, lawmakers should focus on creating more jobs for Americans and allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned money.”

“On top of that, this socialist one-size-fit-all approach ignores the needs of rural America. That is why I introduced an amendment to exempt rural Americans from this harmful bill which would further the rural-urban divide.”

Ferguson introduced an amendment to H.R. 582 to exempt rural Americans from the bill. The Democratic led House Committee on Rules blocked it from being considered on the House floor.
