Dear Friend,
Today marks the twenty-third anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history. On September 11, 2001, terrorists sought to shatter the freedoms and liberties that are our nation’s fabric. Their despicable acts claimed 2,996 lives and injured thousands more, but their attempt to divide us ultimately failed.
In the face of unimaginable darkness, America united and demonstrated remarkable strength. We witnessed the bravery and selflessness of our first responders and law enforcement officers, who ran into burning buildings, climbed endless staircases, carried the injured to safety, sifted through debris, and risked their lives to protect others. Some made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
While we can never fully repay or completely recognize the efforts of those who fought so hard to save lives, we can honor their memory by cherishing their noble sacrifices, courage, and selfless service. Their legacy will inspire Americans for generations.

Recently, I introduced legislation to designate a United State Post Office in Peachtree City, Georgia as the Sergeant First Class Shawn McCloskey Post Office. SFC McCloskey is an American hero from Fayette County, Georgia who was killed in action on September 16, 2009, during his 3rd deployment in Afghanistan.
In commemorating SFC Shawn McCloskey's valorous service and ultimate sacrifice, renaming the post office in Peachtree City stands as a solemn tribute to his unwavering dedication and the enduring legacy of his selfless patriotism. While our nation can never fully repay him for his service, renaming the post office in honor of SFC McCloskey is a fitting way to honor a fallen hero in his hometown.
