I hope this newsletter finds you well! We’re back in the swing of things up here in Washington.

Today, my Ways and Means Committee colleague, Representative Randy Feenstra (IA –04), introduced the Death Tax Repeal Act, which I am proud to cosponsor. As it currently stands, the death tax is a double tax on family farms and small businesses – placing an unfair financial burden on them. This legislation would put an end to this devastating tax in the wake of a family member's death and allow families to keep their multigenerational businesses. I look forward to seeing this bill pass in the House and to providing much needed relief to our family farmers and small business owners.

As always, I will continue to update you as things progress here in Washington.

Last week, the Ways and Means Committee held a mark-up on a Biden Administration proposal that would restrict pregnant women’s access to maternal care. This proposed rule would prohibit states from allowing Temporary Assistance for Needy Family (TANF) funds to be used by pregnancy resource centers. These centers play a vital role for women looking for alternatives to abortion to get the materials and medial help they need. My Republican colleagues and I argued that this rule would deny women access to resources and services needed for safe and healthy pregnancies.

In my remarks, I noted that while the Biden Administration uses tools like this proposal to further their pro-choice agenda, they are continuing to ignore a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions at our southern border. Simply put, they are missing the bigger picture. Tens of thousands of people are dying of overdoses from fentanyl that is being trafficked into our country at the southern border. We are strapped for resources because we simply cannot afford the 12 million people that have come into our country illegally.

On Monday, we celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May we continue to work towards the values he fought for and ensure that every American has the opportunity to achieve their own American Dream.

Congressman Ferguson Earns A+ Pro-Life Rating

Ahead of the March for Life in Washington this weekend, the Susan B. Anthony List, a leading Pro-Life group, informed me that I received an A+ pro-life rating. Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve remained committed to protecting our nation’s most vulnerable. We must continue to protect the unborn.

H.R. 4250 – Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying Act

S. 3250 – A bill to provide remote access to court proceedings for victims of the 1988 Bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland

H. Res. 957 – Denouncing the Biden administration's open-borders policies, condemning the national security and public safety crisis along the southwest border, and urging President Biden to end his administration's open-borders policies

H.R. 3058 – Recruiting Families Using Data Act

H.R. 6918 – Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act

H.R. 6914 – Pregnant Students’ Rights Act

Legislation related to FY24 government funding is expected.
