As many of you are aware, yesterday the House of Representatives voted to remove Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House. Congressman Patrick McHenry of North Carolina is currently serving as the Speaker Pro Tempore while we await a vote on the next Speaker. Rest assured, House Republicans will remain focused on reducing the out-of-control spending in Washington, D.C. It’s clear that big-government has a spending problem that’s simply unsustainable – and America, and Americans, can't continue to ignore the reckless spending happening in our federal government. We simply must get our fiscal house in order and our border under control.

Bipartisan Letter to Department of Energy

Last week, I led a bipartisan letter from the Georgia Congressional delegation to urge the Department of Energy (DOE) to consider the negative impacts their unattainable efficiency requirement will have on gas-fired tankless water heaters. Georgia is home to the country’s largest tankless water heater assembly facility, and the DOE’s overreaching requirement would severally hurt our thriving industry.

Congressional App Challenge

The Congressional App Challenge has begun! This is an incredible opportunity for students to learn more about coding and computer science. The CAC’s purpose is to inspire students to explore coding, computer science, and STEM. Winning students will have their apps displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building and will be invited to Washington, DC for a reception.

Committee Update

Last week, the Ways and Means Committee held a mark-up on H.R. 5688, the Bipartisan Health Saving Account (HSA) Improvement Act of 2023 and H.R. 5687, the HSA Modernization Act of 2023. By removing burdensome regulations and expanding eligible participants, we can improve health savings accounts for hardworking Americans and ensure more folks across the country are in charge of their own healthcare.

DC Meetings

Last week, I met with representatives from the National Sand, Stone, and Gravel Association. We talked about quarries, transportation legislation, and infrastructure programs.

Enjoyed seeing my friend Stuart Countess from Kia last Wednesday! Always great to hear about the positive impact Kia continues to have in the Peach State. Thanks for stopping by.

It was great to welcome the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce to DC last Wednesday! I enjoyed talking with these community leaders and learning more about how they’re improving workforce development in the Douglas County community.

It was a pleasure to speak with representatives from the Forest Resources Association last week. They shared some of the labor issues impacting their industry— along with discussing how their forest-based resources are carbon neutral.

Last week, I met with Jim Allsup, the CEO of Allsup — a company that helps connect people with disabilities to resources and assistance.
