I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well! Recently, the House passed the historic and bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. I was proud to support the tax package on the House floor along with my Ways and Means Committee colleagues. This historic bill provides relief for hardworking American families and increases our competitiveness with China through strong investment in research and development, and American-made manufacturing.

Last week, the House Budget Committee held a markup to discuss a number of bills including H.R. 766, the Preventative Health Savings Act, H.R. 7032, the Congressional Budget Office Date Sharing Act, and H.R. 5301, the Eliminate Useless Reports Act. All three of these bills passed out of the committee unanimously – a testament to the committee’s commitment to getting our fiscal house in order. I look forward to the opportunity to support these bills on the House floor.

Following the House Budget Committee markup, the Ways and Means Committee held a hearing on the increasingly concerning issue of chronic drug shortages in the United States. Our country is at the highest level of active drug shortages since 2014, with over 250 medicines in short supply. The majority of these shortages are from bad policymaking that hinders American manufacturing efforts.

During my remarks, I spoke on my bill, the Pioneering Antimicrobial Subscriptions to End Upsurging Resistance (PASTEUR) Act. This important legislation encourages innovative drug development targeting the most threatening infections, improves the appropriate use of antibiotics, and ensures domestic availability of antibiotics when needed. Antibiotics make modern medicine possible and the U.S. is at risk of losing these critical drugs. Antibiotic resistant infections are becoming more commonplace, and Congress must take action so that the foundation of modern medicine doesn’t crumble. We must act now to keep research and development from falling behind.

Thank you to the University of West Georgia President Brendan Kelly for meeting with me last week!

It was great to meet with the folks from the Georgia Gas Authority. We discussed how they're working to deliver residents in the Peach State with reliable and affordable supply of natural gas.
