Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) recently joined 152 of his colleagues to send a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, calling for revised regulations that would end the blurred lines that allow abortion providers like Planned Parenthood to receive federal funds. “It has been too long since these Clinton-era regulations have been reexamined,” said Ferguson. “Abortion and family planning are not the same, but Planned Parenthood has been able to receive an average of nearly $60 million annually under the Title X Family Planning Program. It is high time these regulations are rewritten to ensure that funding for family planning goes to just that.” “The Title X Family Planning Program is in dire need of review and updated regulations that ensure program integrity with respect to elective abortion. Authorized in 1970, the program is intended to assist in ‘voluntary family planning projects,’ offering ‘a broad range of acceptable and effective family planning methods and services.’ The regulations governing this program have been largely unchanged for nearly two decades and are sorely in need of reform,” wrote the members.
