We have the jobs, Georgia needs you to come to workBy Congressman Drew Ferguson
Washington, DC,
March 15, 2018
There could not be a better time to be a job seeker in Georgia’s Third District. The American economy is booming, and Georgia is leading the pack. Businesses of all sizes are reinvesting in their communities and expanding their workforce. Time and again, I hear the same thing from business owners. This growth would not be possible without the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the Trump Administration’s regulatory relief agenda. Because of these pro-growth reforms, businesses around the Third District have job openings they are seeking to fill. To assist these job creators, my office will be hosting a major jobs fair in Carrollton on March 29th. Last year, we hosted two similar events in Troup and Spaulding Counties. Each event was a success, bringing together at least 45 employers with 2,500 jobs available. Because of our thriving business climate, our upcoming event will unite Third District residents with even more job opportunities: bringing together 60 employers with over 5,000 jobs available in Carrollton. I am thrilled to see so many businesses growing across the United States, but there is still more we can do to ensure folks are equipped to take advantage of these opportunities. Now is the time to invest in skills training to ensure current workers and future generations are competitive in the global marketplace. Already as a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee, we have passed bills that support Career and Technical Education programs to prepare current and future workers, but there is still more we can do to support and educate those who want to fill this gap. Some folks are left out of the workforce because for too long the federal government has created programs that have discouraged our fellow Americans from achieving the dignity of work. This is morally wrong and it hurts our ability to compete on the global stage. Instead, we must work together make smart reforms to our safety net programs that restore the dignity of work and guide Georgians out of the cycle of poverty and into the middle class. Every single person has a contribution to make, but too many have been forced to the sidelines by a system that hinders instead of helps those who want to move up the socioeconomic ladder. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to right this wrong. Now is the time for action. We are seeing the benefits of lowering the tax burden and cutting burdensome regulations. Imagine what would happen if we could also create an environment that incentivizes every American to achieve the dignity of work. I am inspired by the results that we have achieved so far, and ready to roll up my sleeves to ensure America has the most competitive workforce in the world. |
