Ferguson Votes to Give Troops Pay Raise, Ensure Military Readiness

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today voted in favor of H.R. 1301, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2017. This legislation would provide $583.7 billion to the Department of Defense to support our warfighters and ensure military readiness, including a pay raise for troops.

“Georgia continues to play a key role in our national defense as home to some of our country’s critical defense infrastructure, like Fort Benning,” said Ferguson. “Constantly-evolving threats, both at home and abroad, make it imperative that we adequately fund our armed forces to maintain readiness and support our service members. This legislation is key to ensuring we keep our commitment to our troops and to protect the homeland.”

This legislation provides for:

  • A 2.1% pay raise for our service men and women.
  • Unmet requirements identified by the military services for additional weapons, aircraft and ships.
  • Additional funding to increase readiness and facilities sustainment modernization and restoration.
  • Operations to combat terrorism and enhance our allies’ deterrence against Russian aggression.

The bill passed the House by a vote of 371-48.
