Ferguson Votes to Secure Border, Fund Troops

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today voted to pass the Make America Secure Appropriations Act of 2018. This legislation includes funding provisions from the Defense, Legislative Branch, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Energy and Water appropriations bills.

This legislation would provide funding for:

  • A 2.4 percent pay raise for the military.
  • Significant investments in research and development of new defense technologies, new equipment and equipment upgrades.
  • Strengthening oversight and accountability at the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used efficiently and to reduce the disability claims processing backlog.
  • Crucial Army Corps of Engineers projects, including the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
  • Beginning construction of a physical barrier along the Southern border, the first step in keeping President Trump’s commitment to build a wall along the border.

“Our first duty is to provide for our national security, and with this funding package we are keeping our promises to put Americans’ safety first” said Ferguson. “Our troops must have the resources they need to defend our freedoms in the face of ever-evolving global threats. This legislation prioritizes our national security by providing funds to begin building a wall on our southern border and returns our country to military readiness.”

The bill would also prevent a pay increase for Members of Congress.

The bill passed the House by a vote of 235-192.
