Ferguson Votes to Increase Opportunities for Veterans

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today voted for a number of bills to support veterans including H.R. 3218, Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017. This legislation would make several improvements to the Post-9/11 GI Bill including lifting time limits on educational benefits, increasing funding for Reservists, Guardsmen, dependents, and surviving spouses and dependents and making it easier and cheaper for veterans to use their GI Bill to take national tests or licensing and credentialing tests.

“We owe so much more than our gratitude to the brave men and women who serve our country,” said Ferguson. “Every veteran’s transition back to civilian life is unique, and we should create flexibility so that all can access educational benefits that meet their needs. I am excited to support legislation that increases opportunities for veterans and supports them as they transition back to civilian life.”

Ferguson also voted for additional veterans bills that would ensure accountability at the Veterans Administration and would permit spouses of service members to use the same residence as their service member for taxes and voting purposes.

“Veterans and military families continue to make sacrifices beyond the front lines. This legislation offers support by continuing successful programs and making common-sense changes to assist our military communities.”

All of these bills passed the House.
