Ferguson Votes to Reauthorize the FAA

Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) today voted to pass H.R. 4, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018. This bipartisan bill would reauthorize the programs of the Federal Aviation Administration for five years, enhancing the competitiveness of the American aviation industry and improving air safety for passengers and personnel.

“This bill is the first step to achieving President Trump’s infrastructure agenda, and I was proud to work with my colleagues on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to advance it,” said Ferguson. “Thousands of aviation industry personnel call Georgia’s Third District home, and this legislation ensures that America’s aviation sector continues to lead the world while creating a safe flight experience for all passengers.”

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 would:

  • Reauthorize the FAA and the Department of Transportation to carry out activities related to civil aviation for five years.
  • Streamline the FAA certification process to ensure U.S. companies can compete globally and get their products to market on time.
  • Include a number of safety provisions to protect the traveling public.
  • Include provisions to address the passenger experience, strengthen consumer protection laws and maintain the Department of Transportation’s oversight of aviation consumer issues.
  • Increase and fully authorize the Airport Improvement Program, which funds construction of critical infrastructure at airports of all sizes to ensure the long-term sustainability of airports across the country including smaller communities.
  • Provide the FAA with a number of tools, methods and strategies to mitigate the impact of airport noise and the communities neighboring airports.
  • Advance drone technologies to the next step in safe unmanned aircraft system (UAS) integration.

The bill passed the House by a vote of 393-13 and heads to the Senate for consideration.
